Characters

Characters in Lion King I:

Simba:

GF: Nala
Children: Kiara in Simba's Pride and Kopa in TLK: SNA
Parents: Mufasa (deceased) and Sarabi
Uncle: Scar
Mother-in-law: Sarafina
Son-in-law: Kovu
As a cub, Simba is curious, adventurous, cocky, and all too ready to become king. As an adolescent, he has long since forgotten his old life, and once again acts as over-confident and adventurous as he did as a cub. As a father and king, Simba is very over-protective to his daughter, Kiara.

Nala:
Nala is Simba's best friend as a cub who later became his girlfriend, and his assumed queen. Nala is a tawny pelted lioness with hunter green eyes as a cub, teal eyes as an adult in The Lion King, and light, rich-blue eyes in the sequel. Without the overlay however, her eyes are green. Her frame is fit, a must for that of a huntress, and sleek, as said by her official synopsis. She has light-colored eyeshades as both a cub and adult. Her paws are colorless, her tail tuft is rich, mily brown and her thighs and forelegs have color. Overall, she closely resembles her mother, Sarafina. As a cub Nala is a bit sassy, spunky and just as curious, mischevious and ready to get in trouble as Simba is. She is firm about her ideas and beliefs, refusing to let Simba take credit for her idea to get rid of Zazu. This carries into her adulthood, where Nala has turned into a sharp-tongued, fierce, fearless, fiery adult lioness. She fights Simba into submission and isn't afraid to re-inforce to Simba that he is the rightful king no matter how he denies it or tell Scar that they (the lionesses) don't believe he's the rightful king despite being a lower rank at the time.

Mufasa:
Mufasa is the first named king of the Pridelands. He was the father of Simba, and the older brother of Scar. Mufasa was a wise, noble, and very powerful king. Sarabi was his wife.

 Sarabi:
Sarabi is the leader of the hunting party throughout Mufasa and Scar's reign, and the queen alongside Mufasa until Scar's tyrannical takeover as well as Simba's mother. She is shown to be cool, calm, and collective in most situations, and is also shown as a proud and loving mother. Her nose is brown and her chin is prominent, but the rest of her features are graceful and feminine, especially her orange eyes and ears, which are rimmed with brown, which is also something she passes onto her son, Simba. Her personality is firm, and she refuses to bend to anyone, not even Scar.

Zazu:
Zazu is the current majordomo to Simba in The Lion King. Zazu's feathers a light blue, tipped with a darker, navy-blue and a beak in varying shades of orange. His eyebrows are black, thick and scruffy. As majordomo to King Mufasa, his proper, dignified, nervous, and easily-rattled personality is the polar opposite in temperament of Simba and Nala. He tends to panic during emergencies, such as the wildebeest stampede. As a youngster, Zazu was incompetent, talkative nuisance, but soon learns to distinguish between what's real news and what's not, though he's not above some juicy gossip. Despite his size, he's rather snobby and looks down on lowlifes, and is not afraid to use his dry, biting wit, and is a very loyal friend and servant to the royal family.

Rafiki:
Rafiki is a mandrill hybrid who serves as an adviser to the lion king. Since Ahadi ruled the Pridelands, Rafiki was an advisor to Mufasa and even Scar; he currently serves Simba. Rafiki is an old, and hunched over primate. Along with those features, he has wide eyes and a large smile. Though he somewhat resembles a mandrill, Rafiki has a long tail and lacks a distinctive crested head, and is referred to usually as a baboon.

Timon &  Pumbaa:
Timon: Timon is a meerkat, and Pumbaa's best friend. Timon is a pale brown meerkat, with dark brown stripes, a cream chest, and a red patch of hair on his head. For most of the time, Timon is comical, and is wisecracking. However, Timon seems to be selfish, but he shows a lot of heart as shown in the final battle of The Lion King where after he and Pumbaa distract the hyenas so Simba could encounter Scar at Pride Rock. Timon is not as smart as he thinks he is as he takes Pumbaa's ideas as if it is his own.
Pumbaa:  Pumbaa is a warthog who is best friends with Timon and Simba. Pumbaa is a reddish-colored warthog with black hair running down his back and large tusks. Pumbaa is a very likeable character as he's truly loyal to Simba and very protective of Timon. He loves to consume grubs, and longs for friends who won't abandon him. In The Lion King 1½, it is revealed he feels awkward when in crowds, which creates a problem he has with his stomach that causes him to flatuate. However, he displays child-like naivety which is sometimes confused for stupidity, but actually, he comes up with some intelligent plans and insightful ideas, which Timon rapidly claims as his own.

Scar:
Scar was the younger brother of Mufasa and the uncle of Simba. Scar is a sleek, elegant lion who is severely lacking in physical prowess, something he comments on himself and according to the synopsis. Scar is highly intelligent and charismatic as he is able to rally the hyenas to his cause and gain fanatical loyalty from Zira and her pride of lionesses. Scar is a psychopathic individual who is mainly concerned with gaining power and will kill anyone he sees as competition. Despite his ruthless nature, he is a somewhat cowardly individual, more likely to run away from violence than confront it.

Banzai, Shenzi, and Ed:

Banzai:  Banzai is one of Scar's henchmen in The Lion King. Banzai is a smoky-gray hyena with a pale underbelly and yellow eyes. His ears, eyebrows, and paws are black and his back is spotted with dark gray spots. Like most hyenas in The Lion King, Banzai has somewhat of a crazy and hot-headed personality. Realistic to his species, he laughs and jokes around a lot, making it hard for him to focus and/or be serious.

Shenzi: Shenzi is one of Scar's loyal hyena henchmen. She was the leader of the hyena trio that consisted of her, Banzai, and Ed, with her acting as the matriarch. Shenzi is heavy-lidded eyes, loose bangs extending from mane covering forehead. Her fur is dark grey like the rest of her trio and her eyes are yellow. Shenzi is sassy, and appears to be the leader of the group of hyenas including Banzai and Ed, as she often takes command in more serious situations, she is also the only female out of the group of hyenas. Shenzi is really intelligent.

Ed: Ed is a smoky-gray hyena, with black ears, black eyebrows, black paws, dark gray spots, a pale gray stomach, a black tail, and crossed, yellow eyes. His ears have notches in them (most likely due to a previous fight) and he has a long tongue hanging out of his mouth that has three warts, a feature unique to him. Ed has never been known to say anything, but uses laughter to communicate with his friends. He enjoys teasing them, and finds it hard to control his laughter. He's also known for being quite clueless, and getting his friends into trouble numerous times. He's a loyal follower, and never questions orders, either from Banzai or Shenzi. According to the film producers, Ed is either completely crazy or is smarter than he lets on and merely pretends to be crazy.

Sarafina:

Sarafina:  Sarafina is a lioness who is the mother of Nala and the would-be mother of the deleted Mheetu. Sarafina doesn't seem like the dominant opinionated lioness her daughter Nala is. Instead of forming her own thoughts and opinions, she ask for the thoughts and opinions of others. Even in the books she simply seems like the typical, protective and caring mother.

Characters in Lion King II: Simba's Pride:

Kiara:

As a cub, Kiara is a bit mischevious as her father was when he was a cub, and blantantly disobedient. Where Simba goes to the elephant graveyards, merely because he was curious about what was there, Kiara goes to the Outlands because she was told not to. Despite all this, she is very friendly, attempting to make friends with Kovu and Outlander cub she should be wary of. Unlike Simba however, she has no desire to be the future Queen. As an adult, Kiara doesn't change much. However, she isn't as approving as Simba's supervision as she once was, and wants to be on her own. She's still friendly and a bit rash in her actions. Kiara shares many traits with her parents and grandparents. Like Nala, her fur is cream with a noticable tinge of gold given to her by Simba, the result: A light creamy gold pelt. She has brownish-red eyes, which she inherited from Simba's Grandfather since neither one of parents have red eyes. The only features Kiara seems to get from Nala are her build and eye shape. Unlike most of the lionesses in The Lion King universe, Kiara stays one consistent color throughout the film, instead of darkening with age like her predecessors. She closely resembles young adult Sarabi.

Kovu:

Kovu is the last born son of Zira, the Protege and adopted son of Scar. Kovu somewhat resembles his adoptive father, but he has a more muscular build than Scar, and his mane is more kept. His facial features somewhat resembles his father-in-law also. He has reddish-brown fur and a dark brown mane and tail-tip. His eyes are green, framed by dark eye shades, and his muzzle, chest, and paws are pale dusky-brown. In addition, patches of darker fur grow on both elbow joints on his forelegs. As a cub, he has a tuft of darker fur on his head. . A scar stretches across his left eye, which he received from Zira. As a cub, Kovu is aggressive and arrogant. However, like any other cub, he enjoys a good burst of adrenaline, as he celebrates escaping the crocodiles with his new friend, Kiara. Afterward, he attempts to play and befriend her, showing that he's not the hardened cub he's made out to be. He doesn't seem to understand the rift between the Pridelanders and Outsiders, even after his mother has clearly taught him that Simba is the enemy. As an adult, he changes in personality, but not as drastically as the film suggests. He's snarly and still quite arrogant upon meeting Kiara again, even becoming deceptive, a means in which he gains entry to Simba's pride. After experiencing fun with Kiara, he becomes hesitant in his mission and even considers betraying his pride, while admitting his fears of becoming like Scar, and believes that there's a darkness in him. He eventually falls in love with Kiara and releases the hate his mother has tried so hard to plant in his heart.

Nuka:

Nuka is Zira's eldest son, Vitani and Kovu's older brother. Nuka has dark grey fur with a noticeable tinges of reddish-brown, a scraggly black mane, bright red eyes (that appear orange in one scene), and dark eyeshades. Also, Nuka has his mother's earstrips, and freckles that disappear occasionally. He is lanky and thin, which is most likely due to a lack of bathing, malnutrition, and poor care as he is known to be plagued by termites.  Nuka is angsty and brooding for the first half of the movie, complaining about not being the Chosen One in favor of the younger Kovu, and not receiving his mother's attention. He makes Vitani stagger back by clipping a root she was tugging on, and laughing right afterwards, establishing him as sadistic like his mother but to a much lesser degree. Ironically, Nuka is more like Scar than Kovu: for both Scar and Nuka envied their brother, who was chosen to be king. He seems to be somewhat of an arsonphobic, screaming avid "FIRE!", when setting the Pride Lands alight. Finally, he is violent and impulsive as shown by the quote above and like Scar, tries to prove he is better than his brother, Kovu, but dies in the process, making him a selfish, self-centered being.

Vitani:

Vitani is the daughter of Zira, and she is the sister to Kovu and Nuka in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. Vitani has light tan-colored fur, electric blue eyes with dark eye-shades, and a tuft of hair on her head. As a cub, she was roughly the same size and possibly the same age as Kovu. She has brighter fur compared to the Outsiders from the Outlands. As a child, her fur was almost orange in places. As an adult, she bears a close resemblance to her mother, Zira, and her head tuft starts to recede as well as gain ear rims. She has freckles, and is thin and lanky yet muscular like all the other Outlanders. Her fur becomes more yellow and Pridelander-like, though it stays bright. She, like Zira, has triangularly-shaped, almost glowing yellow eyes with beady irises. She is more scruffy, though, with thicker eyebrows and slightly unkempt, slightly longer fur. As a cub, Vitani is shown to be mocking and snarly as she doubts Nukas ability to lead. Like her mother, she is violent, wanting to engage Kovu in a fight as soon as Zira dropped him. Unlike Nuka, she doesn't seem to care to much about Kovus being the Chosen One despite not being Scar's son. Almost masculine in her demeanor, she is indeed the "tomboy" of the Outlanders. Her ever-present sneer never fully vanishes. She is determined, violent, and quick-to-judge even as an adult, and loves to mock everything. She almost never gives up. She is belligerent, and often seems indifferent to the reasons for her violence, as if war were a game, a pastime to her. However, her strong nature is eventually worn down at the end, and her violent traits make way for the hidden, kinder ones.

Zira:

Zira is a lioness who was the leader of the Outsiders, and the mother of Nuka, Vitani, and Kovu. Zira has pale tanish-brown fur with a darker brown stripe running down her face and stopping between her eyes, a cream chest, blood red eyes in The Lion King II (although in the Disney books, she is shown to have blue eyes), and a notch in her right ear. Her ears also feature two thin dark brown stripes. Like Scar, she is thin (due to possible malnutrition or her genetic makeup), and her claws are visible on her front paws. Zira is very impulsive, ruthless, and opportunistic, as shown when she prepares to attack Simba in broad daylight while he is alone until his pride shows up. She is manipulative, as she warps Kovu's mind into killing Simba and, like Scar, seems to have no problem killing family members as she threatens to kill her daughter, Vitani, which also makes her a sociopath. She can be caring, both geniuinely and mockingly so. She cooes to Kovu after harshly telling him to hush and mourns over Nuka's death.

The characters in The Lion King 1 1/2:

Ma:

Ma is Timon's mother. Her attempts to make him fit in and be liked convinces him to leave his colony and find a better home. Ma is a short and somewhat plump meerkat. She has pinkish-tan fur, a pale underbelly, dark ears, brown stripes on her back, green eyes, and a tuft of orange fur on her head. Overall, her coloring is similar to that of her son, Timon. Ma is a devoted and supportive mother. She is very down-to-earth about what's important and will sacrifice her time and efforts to make others happy. She is also the only meerkat who's willing to stick up for Timon when he messes up. Throughout the film, she yearns for him to fit in and be happy. When he tells her that his place is not with his colony, she reluctantly lets him leave, in hopes that he'll find a better home. But she has a very strong attachment to Timon, as she can hardly stand being parted from him. Other traits of Ma's include bravery, devotion, a willingness to help, and forgiveness. She is also known to be sassy and strong-willed at times. Throughout the film, she tries to keep Timon's hair as neat as possible

Uncle Max:

Uncle Max is the uncle of Timon. Uncle Max has scruffy gray fur on his head, and fur that has presumably dulled tan from old age. He has dark circles around his eyes and darker grey stripes on his body. Max is flinchy, irritable, easy to dissapoint, a stickler for the rules, and very pessimistic about life in general. He is especially against the concept of being eaten.
